An essential stopover during your vacation in Rwanda, Akagera Park Located in the north-east of Rwanda, on the border with Tanzania and covers 1,122 km². it takes its name from the akagera river which crosses it, and was created in 1934 with the aim of protecting the animals of the savannah and marshes. Among them: giraffes, several kinds of antelopes, buffaloes, warthogs, elephants, several kinds of birds, monkeys, hypopotamus, crocodiles, leopards, lions, black rhinoceros, etc... The park has experienced a decline in animal populations, especially lions who were killed by the local population to protect their cattle, the 1994 war also had an impact on the animal population
The park has been managed by African Parks since 2009 and extinct species such as lions and black rhonoceros have been introduced since 2015.
